Indoor Home Projects To Do During Winter
January 21, 2021
Starting projects in winter can be successful, provided they are the right type. Here are a few examples of good projects to take on during the colder months.

Winter is not the best time of year to be adding new siding to your house or starting a new landscaping project. For those of us with the wherewithal to withstand the winter blues, we need something we can do to pass the time indoors while also making our homes look as nice as possible. Here are a few indoor home projects to do during winter that will spruce up your house for everyone inside to enjoy.

Reseal Your House

With the chill of winter comes high heating bills and regular blanket use, but you can fight back against these frigid conditions. Cold air frequently slips through crack and crevices in our home, driving up heating consumption. You can fix this with a little bit of time and some caulking. Check areas such as:

  • Around your windows
  • By your door frames
  • Near water lines
  • In the basement or attic

Reorganize Your Closet

We’ve all been guilty of letting our closets get out of control at some point in our lives. What better time to come up with a new organizational plan for all your clothes than when you’re stuck inside for winter? You’ll be digging out your winter clothes anyway, so you might as well put things back in their proper places. This may be a quick project, but you’ll be glad you got it done when spring rolls around.

Paint a Couple Rooms

One indoor project perfect for being stuck inside during winter is to bust out your paintbrushes and touch up the walls you’ll be staring at for a while. Painting a whole room is a great improvement project that doesn’t require you to go outside and can use up a good amount of time. Don’t be afraid to get creative with it either—the sky’s the limit when it comes to painting.

Declutter Your Life

Being stuck inside all day can be very productive if you have a goal in mind. Decluttering your space isn’t just a good idea—it can actually boost your mood and health. Coming up with system for decluttering can take a while but once you get into the groove of it, you’ll find it hard to stop. This is a great project to take on if you don’t want to add anything to your home but still want to improve it.

Start an Indoor Garden

While you won’t be growing watermelons or soybeans in your home, there are actually quite a few vegetables and herbs that you can start to grow, even during the winter. Some good choices for indoor gardens are:

  • Herbs, such as basil, dill, and rosemary
  • Leafy vegetables
  • Chili peppers
  • Ginger
  • Microgreens

With these plants, you can bring a little more life into your home this winter and you’ll have plenty to help you cook with as well.
